In the first 350 miles of our trip we’ll cross 5 major passes. Two at over 5,000 ft, two at over 4,000 ft and one at over 3,000 ft. When you couple that with the typical Northwest US June weather, we’re anticipating that we’ll have to deal with cold and wet conditions. As such, we’re bringing warm on-the-bike and warm off-the-bike clothes. I expect that by the time we hit eastern Montana, and much higher temperatures, we’ll want to jettison some of the warm stuff. At that point, we’ll need to consider that some of the clothes can double for cycling and street (for example, raincoat, sunglasses, vest and long sleeve jersey (or long sleeve pile top) to appropriately select what we keep and what we send home.
